Dear Sugar Podcast and Codependency
Dear Sugar is a podcast I recommend for the way they deal with powerful, important human issues. One can learn a lot by listening to this podcast with its therapeutic insights, the real raw relationship and other issues they cover, and the straight talk of Steve Almond and Cheryl Strayed. Their honest advice is practical, wise and they speak from their hearts, driven obviously from their own life experiences and struggles.

On Codependency
A book that I recommend to most of my clients is by Melody Beattie called Codependent No More. I call this the bible of codependency theory, in its 31st year of printing, and I always recommend that people get the actual book and not the Kindle version because I want them to read it first and get a good understanding of what codependency is, and then go through the wonderful exercises at the end of each chapter. We all have a certain amount of codependency. A brief definition of codependency is when a person sacrifices his or her own well-being and health for other people. Obviously there’s nothing wrong with helping people and we need to do this daily in our lives, but often people will believe that they can help people beyond what is reasonable, they think they can save people and they will suffer and sacrifice aspects of their own life and needs in order to do this.
