Michael Schvarczkopf – Ways to do the acts of Service
Regarding the book Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, which I have already recommended, one thing that one of my couples that are clients came up with is: under the love language of acts of service this couple made a distinction between an act of service and act of servitude. An act of servitude would encompass normal jobs that you do in the couple-ship like laundry, cooking and doing the dishes. But doing your normal act is not an act of love. We find tuned it that an act of service is more like when you get up to go into the kitchen to get yourself a drink you ask your partner if you can get him or her anything or on your drive home if you can pick anything up that they would like at the grocery store or one of their favorite restaurants. So jobs that are extra. There are also jobs around the house that are extra that you can do. Like maybe doing the vacuuming when it wasn’t expected so your partner comes home to a really clean house. Or you take their car in and get it washed for them. So these are ways to do acts of service that are one of the languages of love.
